Frequently Asked Questions

What is relationship and divorce coaching?

Relationship and divorce coaching is a supportive, structured process designed to help you navigate change, gain clarity, and move forward with intention. It focuses on understanding what’s happening now, identifying priorities, and supporting next steps.

Do I need a divorce coach if I already have a solicitor?

Yes. Your solicitor handles the legal side. Coaching supports your emotions, decisions & communication, especially important in high conflict situations. A coach can prepare you for engagement with a mediator or solicitor, understand the process and stay emotionally grounded to reduce stress and cost.

Can a coach help with co parenting and post separation arrangements?

Yes, a coach can offer sensitive, practical support to help you talk to your children, navigate changes and build healthier communication with your ex-partner.

Can a coach support someone who has experienced domestic abuse or coercive control?

Yes, a coach can support you in navigating abusive dynamics, separation or recovery.

Is coaching value for money?

Yes. Your coach brings a wealth of resources and tools to the sessions which saves you time and allows you to prioritise where to use your energy. Coaching will help you to manage your emotions and be better able to make decisions, for example instead of using time with your solicitor for emotional support, you can use that time to focus on the legal issues. Using your coach for support will will help you reduce stress and cost.

How is coaching different from therapy or counselling?

Coaching is about building a creative supportive relationship where we will work on your goals, problem solve and manage change. Coaching is not therapy, counselling or medical treatment. Coaching is often used alongside therapy or legal support and is particularly helpful for decision-making, perspective, and practical support during transition.

Who do you work with?

I work with adults navigating relationship breakdown, divorce, and periods of significant personal change. Coaching is suitable if you are seeking support, clarity and guidance. I work with both women and men but can also recommend male coaches if that is a preference.

Is coaching confidential?

Yes. Coaching conversations are confidential. Exceptions apply only where disclosure is required by law, where there is a serious risk of harm, or where you provide written consent. I am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and work in line with UK GDPR.

What do you charge for your sessions?

Pricing starts at £90 a session. Coaching sessions are offered as hour long sessions with packages available which can include ‘Hold Your Hand’ support between sessions. The free introductory call will include details of my hourly rate and packages. If cost is a concern, please don't let that stop you from reaching out. I offer a tiered fee structure which includes supporting clients using Legal Aid. Please contact me for more details.

How often do the sessions take place?

We will agree on a schedule that works best for you. Most clients have regular weekly or bi weekly sessions at least to start with. Sessions can take place during the day or evening, online or in person, all depending on availability.

Do you offer a free initial call?

Yes. I offer a free, no-obligation 20-minute discovery call. This gives us space to talk briefly about what you’re looking for and whether working together feels like a good fit.

What happens in the first session?

The 90-minute introductory session offers time to share your situation in more depth and sets the framework for our sessions. We’ll explore what’s happening for you, identify immediate priorities, and discuss how coaching could support you moving forward.

How do your packages work?

Packages include an introductory session followed by a set number of coaching sessions, 3 or 6, the package fee offers a discount compared to booking single sessions. Some packages also include ‘ Hold Your Hand’ - additional email or message support between sessions. Packages are designed to provide continuity, structure, and steady support over time and also offer the best value.

Can I book individual sessions instead of a package?

Yes. Individual sessions are available, following on from the 90 minute introductory session. Some clients prefer to start this way before committing to a package or for ad hoc support.

What is the ‘Hold Your Hand’ support add-on?

‘Hold Your Hand’ is optional email and text/WhatsApp support offered between sessions within agreed boundaries. It is intended for reassurance, guidance and information sharing — not for crisis situations or real-time conversations.

What training and professional development do you have?

Accredited training by the International Divorce Coach Centre of Excellence, The CPD Standards Office and the Dash Charity. I have completed an ICF-accredited qualification in relationship coaching as a Master Practitioner. I undertake ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as part of my professional practice. I access regular supervision from coaches within the framework of the Sara Davison Coaching community. This helps ensure my work remains ethical, informed, and aligned with best practice. My coaching qualification is supported by a BA (Hons) degree in Psychology.

Practicalities & Boundaries

All coaching sessions must be booked in advance. Payment is required at the time of booking unless otherwise agreed. This applies to individual sessions and packages.

What are your cancellation terms?

If you need to cancel or reschedule:

  • More than 24 hours’ notice: sessions may be rescheduled

  • Less than 24 hours’ notice or non-attendance: the full fee is payable

If I need to cancel I will give you as much notice as possible and you will be offered a reschedule or refund.

How does message support work?

Message support is offered within clear boundaries:

  • During normal working hours, Monday to Friday

  • Responses are provided within 1–2 working days

  • Support time includes reading and responding

  • It is not real-time or on-demand support

  • Email and message support are not suitable for crisis situations, immediate distress, or risk of harm. If you are unsafe or in crisis, please contact your GP, local crisis services, or emergency services.

Do you offer legal or mediation advice?

No. I do not provide legal advice or mediation advice but am able to offer guidance, help with resources and completing forms as well as direct you on the correct pathway and how to seek the best professionals to support you. Coaching is a supportive, non-directive process focused on clarity, reflection, and next steps and can work really effectively alongside or in advance of mediation and consulting a solicitor. Coaching does include sign posting to other suitable professional services including solicitors, mediators, resources and other agencies.

Can I pause or stop coaching?

Yes. Coaching is voluntary, and you may choose to pause or end at any time. Package terms and refund policies are outlined in the Terms & Conditions.

Where do sessions take place?

Sessions are offered in person depending on location as well as online.
